Houston Landing

Since 2023, I’ve worked as a designer at a small nonprofit newsroom in Houston, Texas, which has the mission of highlighting underrepresented communities in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the country. Like in any small company, my skills here are stretched beyond just article design - from designing special pages on the website to expanding our brand guidelines to laying out feature art, impact reports, internal decks and much more.

Featured Project #1

2024 Voter Guide

The voter guide was designed to be a mobile-first, user-friendly, and accessible source of information for the people of Houston. We worked closely with our reporters and editors to figure out what information was necessary, and boy was there a lot! We also identified opportunities for further education and engagement, which was brought to life with captivating animations and strong imagery.

Impact Report

Working closely with our Chief Development Officer, we designed a 48-page printed booklet to showcase our most impactful stories and statistics throughout the year. We then designed a custom page on our website to give it a permanent home for all to see.

Editorial Illustration

When our photo department was stretched thin or there wasn’t an obvious photo choice to accompany a story, I created the lead editorial art. I worked with reporters to better understand their vision and intent, and oftentimes requested documents and supporting materials to include in creative ways. Finding the appropriate balance between visual intrigue and (sometimes) difficult subject matter was sometimes a challenge, but became a skill I was proud to develop.

Neiter Creative

I worked at a full service boutique branding agency in Houston, Texas from 2021-2023, designing a wide range of collateral for our large and diverse set of clients of clients. I saw projects from start to finish - from writing design briefs and concepting brandmarks, to handing off fully custom website files to our programmer. Working at such a small company taught me how to be scrappy while delivering outstanding designs.

34 Restaurant and Bar

Created by Emeril Lagasse and inspired by his Portuguese heritage, this New Orleans restaurant represents the partnership between him (Emeril John Lagasse III) and his son, chef E.J. Lagasse (Emeril John Lagasse IV). We worked closely with the Emeril Group team to create a stunning visual package that reflects bold flavors and complements the interior design.

Centermark Commercial Real Estate

I won’t lie - a commercial real estate client didn’t sound like the most exciting prospect. Luckily, this client’s genuine passion for their field was really refreshing and we were able to create a visual identity and custom website that’s just as spirited as them.

Chainlink Marketing

With a growing list of impressive clients, our developer needed a website that reflected and utilized their talent. We refreshed the branding and designed a custom website with a range of fun features to show off their skills. Happy hovering!
